Defining what Web 3.0 is and what it does still very much an ambiguous matter.

The master can teach the student, but only if the student is teachable.

The master can teach the student, but only if the student is teachable.

“A Champion, like a Tiger, is Superior for one reason, he knows he is

Have we yet to agree on a Web 3.0 definition? The answer is still no.

Just in case you missed it, the web now has version numbers. Nearly three years ago, amid continued hand-wringing over the dot-com crash, a man named Dale Dougherty dreamed up something called Web 2.0, and the idea soon took on a life of its own. In the beginning, it was little more than a rallying cry, a belief that the Internet would rise again. But as Dougherty’s Silicon Valley start-ups—and blogs are already abuzz with talk of the Web’s next generation.

To many, Web 3.0 is something called the Semantic Web, a term coined by Tim Berners-Lee, the man who invented the (first) World Wide Web. (this is debatable unless Tim was on the team that pioneered the Web of the Department of Defense in the 60’s) In essence, the Semantic Web is a place where machines can read Web pages much as we humans read them, a place where search engines and software agents can better troll the Net and find what we’re looking for. “It’s a set of standards that turns the Web into one big database,” says Nova Spivack, CEO of Radar Networks, one of the leading voices of this new-age Internet.

But some are skeptical about whether the Semantic Web—or at least, Berners-Lee’s view of it—will actually take hold. They point to other technologies capable of reinventing the online world as we know it, from 3D virtual worlds to Web-connected bathroom mirrors. Web 3.0 could mean many things, and for Net-heads, every single one is a breathtaking proposition.

Tim Berners-Lee has described the semantic web as a component of ‘Web 3.0’ “People keep asking what Web 3.0 is. I think maybe when you’ve got an overlay of scalable vector graphics – everything rippling and folding and looking misty – on Web 2.0 and access to a semantic Web integrated across a huge space of data, you’ll have access to an unbelievable data resource.” 2006

Web 3.0 Debates over Definition
Since the origins of the concept of Web 3.0, the debate continues goes on about exactly what the term Web 3.0 means, and what a suitable definition might be. As emerging the new technology, a new definition emerged:

Transforming the Web into a database
Transforming the Web into a database is the beginning step towards transforming definition of Web 3.0 when the technology of ‘Data Web’ emerged as structured data records that can be published to the Web in reusable and remotely query able formats, such as XML, RDF and micro-formats. The Data Web is the initial step in the way of full Semantic web that enables a new level of data integration and application interoperability, which makes the data openly accessible and linkable as Web pages. To make available structured data using RDF is primarily focused in Data Web phase. The full Semantic Web stage will expand the scope that both structured and semi-structured or unstructured content will be widely available in RDF and OWL semantic formats.

An evolutionary path to artificial intelligence
Web 3.0 has also been used to describe the trend of artificial intelligence, which is being popular in the web like a quasi-human fashion. Some cynic believes that it is an unobtainable vision. However, this is being used new technologies on mass level that yields amazing information like making predictions of hit songs from mining information on college music Web sites. There is also debate on the driving force behind Web 3.0.  Will it be the intelligent systems, or whether intelligence will emerge in a more organic fashion and how people interact with it?

The realization of the Semantic Web and Service Oriented Architecture
Another debate originates over the artificial intelligence direction in which Web 3.0 can be extent to Semantic web concept. Academic research is going on to develop such reasoning software that must be based on description logic and intelligent agents. These sorts of applications can perform logical reasoning operations through using sets of rules expressing logical relationships between concepts and data on the Web.

But some critics disagree on the viewpoint, which describes that Semantic Web would be the core of the 3rd generation of the Internet and suggests a formula to summarize Web 3.0. Web 3.0 has also been associated to a possible hub of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) and Semantic web.

Evolution towards 3D

The evolution of 3D technology is also being connected to Web 3.0 as Web 3.0 may be used on massive scale due to its characteristics. In this process Web 3.0 would transform into a series of 3D spaces, taking the concept realized by Second Life expansion. This could open up new ways to connect and collaborate using 3D shared spaces.

Proposed Expanded Definitions of Web 3.0

Nova Spivack has proposed the expanded definition of Web 3.0 that indulge in itself the collection of various foremost harmonizing technology developments that are growing to a new level of maturity simultaneously includes:

Ubiquitous Connectivity, broadband adoption, mobile Internet access and mobile devices

Network computing, software-as-a-service business models, Web services interoperability, distributed computing, grid computing and cloud computing.

Open technologies, Open APIs and protocols, open data formats, open-source software platforms and open data (e.g. Creative Commons, Open Data License)

Open identity, Open-ID, open reputation, roaming portable identity and personal data

The intelligent web, Semantic web technologies such as RDF, OWL, SWRL, SPARQL, Semantic application platforms, and statement-based data-stores

Distributed databases, the “World Wide Database” (enabled by Semantic Web technologies)

Intelligent applications, natural language processing, machine learning, machine reasoning, and autonomous agents

What do pharmaceutical companies and others do with their toxic waste?

Posted in 1, PharmaWater, The American Consumer on August 17, 2009 by novawizards

greenbizseal1Understanding the Importance of Water

PharmaWater brought to you by the Giants of the Pharmaceutical Industry

Examples of water pollution;

The Asopos River in Greece should provide fresh water for a town on its banks but it runs red and/or purple due to the many different industries upstream dumping toxic chemicals into the river polluting water, it is unfit to drink, however the citizens have little choice. In China some Rivers are flowing contaminated, one is red and foamy with ammonia nitrogen and permanganate, China could be facing a water shortage, partly due to polluted water. According to the world health organization (WHO), the Indus River contains high amounts of pollutants due to industrial waste it is unfit for drinking. Bristol-Myers pharmaceutical company has continuously polluted waters of lake Syracuse pumping it with toxins, hopefully their huge fine will help stop this behavior. No, EVERYONE stop sitting on your ass and DO NOT buy anything manufactured by Bristol-Myers. They’ll pay the fine and so what.  Pharmaceutical companies have the deepest pockets on the planet along with having the most powerful ‘friends’ on earth.  Peoples in Japan have died due to mercury poisoning from eating contaminated fish caught off their coast, and significant amount of ground water has been found contaminated in India, large amounts of pesticides have polluted groundwater, only small amount of their waste water is treated. More than a third of America’s rivers and Lakes are to polluted for fishing or swimming, there are millions of cases of water born diseases and deaths a year due to polluted water, carelessly discarded waste materials especially toxic ones have detrimental effect on any ecosystem that they enter, and then there is the oil sands project in Alberta it uses around 175 million liters of water a day this water is contaminated with many chemicals and is not reusable, this toxic soup is then stored in huge toxic waste ponds posing a threat to our environment ecosystems and wildlife.

Some contaminated packaging and drug waste are incinerated; more is sent to landfills. But it is believed that most unused pharmaceuticals from health care facilities are dumped down sinks or toilets, usually without violating state or federal regulations.

Alan Davidner, president of Vestara of Irvine, Calif., which sells systems to manage drug waste, says his limited sampling suggests the health care industry’s contribution could even be higher. Plus, untold amounts of pills and tablets are being thrown away each year at federal and state correctional institutions. At a state prison in Oak Park Heights, Minn., Nurse Linda Peterson says the hospital unit serving inmates statewide has been throwing away up to 12,000 pills a year. She says some heart medicines and antibiotics are simply chucked into the trash. Tightly regulated narcotics susceptible to abuse go down the toilet.

“We flush it and flush it and flush it — until we can’t see any more pills,” she says.

She notes the presence of nursing homes, a hospital and another prison in the same area. “So what are all these facilities doing, if we’re throwing away about 700 to 1,000 pills a month?” It’s what they are NOT doing that bothers most people.

Cruise Ships? Well they dump enormous amounts of very unsanitary waste water into the seas daily, affecting the oceans ecosystem greatly, there needs to be a solution for this water pollution, some major cruise lines have installed illegal bypass lines, depositing oil, sewage, garbage and other hazardous toxic wastes into the oceans and waterways, it is not only the cruise ships that dump waste overboard, causing polluted water.

Much too often we are always looking at the band-aide and not a real solution. Why we are not donating say some of the unused medicine from prisons, nursing homes, hospitals a month before expiration is an obvious one to me. Because of money! This is why. They will wait until the day after the expiration date before dumping or perhaps even longer. Cruise ships? Shut them down. Our society, the culture in America, the people here are so passive we would rather not deal with anything that makes us feel the least bit out of our comfort shell. It’s so obvious too that I actually get nauseous when I see people become dastardly when any kind of even potential conflict arises. I personally was in a car, my friend driving, we were rear ended and he pulled off the freeway. The other driver of course kept going. We are so full of fear in this country. Letter writing is more effective than people realize. Write ANYONE in politics from the director of the Labor Union, any/all General Counsel to the Governor of your state or all states in the country right up to President Obama. Make sure the people you write have your contact information and keep writing. You will not get any action taken right away or even a response.  However, after a period of time you will be contacted by someone who can do something AND will do something.  It takes perseverance, guts, passion and believing in you.  This one is a no brainer for all you Ivy League Insane-Men;

People + Water = Life

Contaminate will Eliminate so please don’t Procrastinate!

Know who you are up against so be prepared.  Barack Obama is a product of this elitist system. So are his degree-laden cabinet members. They come out of Harvard, Yale, Wellesley and Princeton. Their friends and classmates made huge fortunes on Wall Street and in powerful law firms. They go to the same class reunions. They belong to the same clubs. They speak the same easy language of privilege and comfort and entitlement. They are endowed with an unbridled self-confidence and blind belief in a decaying political and financial system that has nurtured and empowered them.

These elites, and the corporate system they serve, have ruined the country. These elite cannot solve our problems. They have been trained to find “solutions,” such as the trillion-dollar bailout of banks and financial firms, that sustain the system. They will feed the beast until it dies. Don’t expect them to save us. They don’t know how. And when it all collapses, when our rotten financial system with its trillions in worthless assets implodes, and our imperial wars end in humiliation and defeat, they will be exposed as being as helpless, and as stupid, as the rest of us.

PharmaWater.2009.IIRemember that; “helpless and stupid as the rest of us” Is this how you want to be known as? Not me and I won’t. “I’m only going to die once. A coward dies a 1,000 times”
